Come Sail Away
Jun 15th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

As of 4:30 this afternoon, I am officially on vacation and at 3:00 tomorrow morning (just 5 short hours from now…eep!) I’ll be sailing off to visit Codie in Montreal.  Okay, so I’ll actually be flying to Canada, but Fleur’s latest clothing release has me in a nautical mood…and sailing sounds more romantic, don’t you think?

Roslin Petion has been focusing on clothing design lately and I really like what she’s doing.  The textures seem touchable and realistic, with wrinkles and creases in all the right places. The high-waisted sailor pants, V-neck sweater, and available tube top are available on all appropriate layers for easy mixing and matching.  There are six colors available and are perfect for a casual, comfy summer look.  You can see all of the colors on the Fleur blog, as well as a sneak peek of the new Abby skin that Ros and CJ are working on.  And you know I can’t wait for that release!

In the meantime, hoist your sails and let the winds guide you to Fleur.

An Apple A Day
May 31st, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

I had planned to feature several outfits by Apple May Designs, but this week has been crazily hectic.  I had never heard of AMD before inspecting the gorgeous red skirt that Jori Watler was wearing while out dancing one night.  (Sidebar: I really hope these anti-inspect invisiprim things don’t catch on. Inspect is my best friend?) Judging by the size of the store, the quality of the designs and the number of people shopping, I’m a litle slow on the uptake.  Apple May has a fantastic selection of clothing from lingerie to formal wear, but it was her casual wear selection that really caught my eye.  It is vast! And there doesn’t appear to be anyting over L$300. In fact, most of the outfits I purchased (yes, I went on a bit of a frenzy) were less than L$200.

This outfit is Phoebe.  It comes with tweed shorts with sculpted cuffs and pockets, a sculpted scarf and two shirt options, solid and sheer.  Many AMD pieces are provided on multiple layers for easy mixing and matching.  I decided to put together a look I might wear out while shopping or running errands.  Be sure to stop into AMD and load up on some great looks!

Oh, and that great skirt I stole from Jori, its part of the Subtle outfit. I positively adore it!  And it comes with the jewelry!

Bohemian Rhapsody
May 25th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

I’m sure I’ve told you before that the very first SL blog I followed regularly was Milla Michinaga’s diary of daily looks.  I looked to her for inspiration and ideas.  If I was putting together a look that needed a particular style of shirt, for example, I would troll back through her archives and sure enough, I’d find exactly what I was looking for.

These days, I still look to Milla for ideas and inspiration, but not in her blog. Her clothing brand, MichaMi, is a collection of timeless, classic and infinitely versatile designs that look fantastic right out of the box, yet still mix and match easily with anything else in my inventory.   Her latest releases, Afton and Orla, are no exception.

Both Afton and Orla spoke to my inner-bohemian.  Afton, with its full skirt and structured harness, begged for a boho-chic look.  I’ve always been a fan of jewelry from Zaara, and the latest release, inspired by traditional Indian pieces is breathtaking.  I chose to layer my arm in gold and pearl bangles and added a hand ornament.  I’ve had the nosering in my inventory for ages, and it seemed to fit perfectly with the look, especially once I found my favorite gladiator sandals from J’s.  Jori had recently sent me some henna tats from HUZ by Hunain Bellic and the faded natural color really brought it all together for me. I was looking for a hairstyle that was loose and casual when Codie suggested that maybe something with a small flower would be nice.  For that I turned to Truth, my new go-to hair designer, and Aradia was the instant choice.

Orla, on the other hand, is a little sexier, a little edgier and I knew immediately I wanted to style it with a little boho-rock influence.  The Noomi jacket, also by MichaMi, with its buckled collar and short length upped the edge factor a bit.  I turned to Zaara, again, for some bold jewelry, this time from an older release, the Melange set.  Just as I was debating whether or not to wear a necklace, Jori sent me her new Risque pumps.  The instant I tried on the first pair, Deadly, I knew that Maitreya’s sangria-colored scarf would pull it all together.

Whatever style you are going for, MichaMi makes it so easy to look pulled together with just a few quick clicks of the mouse.  Visit her shop for more inspiration!

The Perfect Second Date
May 10th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

What is your idea of the perfect second date? Whatever it is, I’m sure you will find the Second Date dress by Fleur to be the perfect ensemble.  This is the first clothing release designed entirely by Roslin Petion from start to finish, though you’d never know it was her first anything.  The colors, all six of them, are rich and deep.  The textures are softly, but expertly shaded and highlighted, just as we’ve come to expect from Fleur’s skins.  And Roslin has paid careful attention to even the smallest details like the gentle folds in the skirt and the pleating in the belt.

I had such a difficult time choosing a color to feature, I really love the teal and berry shades that are available, but in the end, I decided that the goldenrod color looked best with the Allure Exotique skin I chose to wear.  I added a few baubles from Genesis’ and Paper Couture’s most recent releases and created a look that is at once playful and sophisticated.  I’m all ready for our Second Date. Now, where are you taking me?

Who’s That Girl? It’s Candace!
May 1st, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

Who’s that girl going down the street?
It’s Candace!
She’s the girl next door who is a pop diva by day and a Hollywood bad girl by night crossed with an old school glamour goddess I’d like to meet.
It’s Candace!
-Phineas and Ferb

The new skin by Genesis designer, Ryker Beck, is, yep, you guessed it, Candace!  She is not a rework of Genesis’ inaugural skin line, Eden.  Rather, Candace is a brand new skin from head to toe.  There are several reviews of this skin already on the feeds, so I’ll just hit a few highlights that really appeal to me.

I love the highlights and shading on this skin.  The first time I tried the beta version, I thought them a bit dark, but the final version is just right.  There is just enough definition, without being too harsh, and the facial highlighting is glamorous and runway-ready.  I love that Ryker has included tintable brows and “landing strip” panties.  There’s also a cute little belly ring.  The tintable gloves are designed to hide the fingernails on the skin when wearing prim nails.  This feature I definitely love because I wear a lot of prim nails in photos, and I hate having to tint the gloves to match my skin.  The gloves are tintable, though, so you can tweak them however you’d like.  And check my cute butt-dimples! Who doesn’t love butt-dimples?!?

Now, on to the makeups. Read the rest of this entry »

New Release: Tiny Dancer
Apr 19th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

Rosie Barthelmess has been a very good friend for quite some time and not too terribly long ago she launched her own jewelry line, Sable Rose.  Tiny Dancer is the latest release from Sable Rose and is a delicate web of interlocking circles.  When I tried it on, I loved the way it complimented the outfit I was wearing, so I knew I had to take a few pictures to share.  Rosie makes some beautiful and interesting pieces, each new release demonstrates how her talent and aptitude for jewelry making is growing by leaps and bounds.  Often, her pieces are infused with a personal touch and are inspired by her close and eclectic circle of friends.  I do hope you will take a few moments to stop in Rosie’s boutique, I know you will find something (or several somethings) that will suit you as perfectly as Tiny Dancer suits me.

Blogger Challenge: How Low Can You Go?
Apr 11th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

Isle Lunesea posted on her blog about how we can all do our part to reduce lag at crowded events, hunts and expos by choosing wearables that contribute to a low ARC or Avatar Rendering Cost.  So she challenged bloggers to come up with attractive, low-ARC outfits…under 100 ARC to be exact.  I really pushed the limit…and, okay, I might have dipped my toe over the line a little bit…but I came up with two looks that I think fit the spirit of the challenge.

There are those who will argue that ARC is a myth.  Personally, I will admit to being completely non-techy, so I don’t even pretend to understand all of the arguments for or against the legitimacy of ARC and its effect on sim lag.  In fact, just this week I discussed this with Codie and she tells me that, other than the sim build itself, skin is actually the largest contributor to lag at crowded events.  She made sense, but skin only has an ARC value of one.  So, how does that compute in the swirl of rationales debated by those for and against ARC as a lag measure?  But I digress.  This post is about the spirit of the challenge so lets get to the pictures, shall we?

What’s Black & White & Pink All Over?
Apr 1st, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

Okay, so the the old joke is actually:  What’s black and white and read all over? (a newspaper…yucka yucka yucka). And when I started putting this outfit together, I had on some red accents to go with the black and white. (Get it? Read. Red.) Then Java sent me a little pink dress and my mind started to flicker.  Once I headed upstairs to my little hideaway on Rouge (the only place on Codie’s sim you are likely to ever find anything pink), I was further inspired to make some changes.

I’d been trying on random goodies from Dice Beattie all night, and I love the versatility of his tintable Boobless One-Piece. He’s currently designing like a man possessed, rebuilding his store and planning to release all kinds of newness in mid-April. I paired the one-piece with a blouse and cropped pants from COCO, tights from Fleur, socks from Maitreya, and a belt from caLLie cLine. I chose a whimsical, romantic hairstyle from Clawtooth by Clawtooth, mostly because I really liked the flower and finally, I added my current obsession, the Boho Chic Mules from Pretties by JB.

A Few Of My Favorite (New) Things
Mar 30th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

By now you I’m certain you’ve all heard that ETD has reopened with 2 brand new hairstyles and 2 new versions of previous styles. I’ve been changing them often and I have to say, I really love Elika’s new textures. It seems like braids and skinny headbands/wraps are one of the spring trends on the grid and Elika’s Chel is a beautifully executed example of that.

So, what else is new? Jori Watler of Pretties by JB has released a gorgeous pair of Short Stack boots, available in a wide range of colors. With the slouchy upper and the rounded toe, these are great for wearing with your favorite pair of jeans or a cute tunic for that slightly bohemian look.  Speaking of boho, Jori has also just released some fantastic Boho Chic Mules, so run over there and pick up the entire Piggeh Pack of suede and leather, and the boots…how can you possibly pass them up?!?  The top I’m wearing is part of a new release from Journey called Frills. My friend Java invited me to meet the designer, Journey McLaglin, last week and as I understand it, she has a new release every Wednesday and there’s usually some sort of free gift involved. I’ve already marked my calendar to investigate that further this week.  (By the way, the skirt on this dress is really cute, I promise to blog it properly soon, I was just in the mood for jeans today.)

Challenge: Armoire Diversity – Take 1
Dec 23rd, 2008 by Gabby Panacek

Ana Lutetia suggested this fantastic challenge on her blog, and I’ve been shopping for a couple of weeks to pull everything together for the looks I wanted to create.  Needless to say, each shopping excursion ended up changing my focus a little bit.  I knew, however, that if I procrastinated any longer, I’d never get started on this challenge.  So lets go over the rules, shall we?  From Ana’s blog:

So, the armoire diversity challenge is: dress your female avie with male clothing and accessorize it accordingly with the gender or vice-versa (dress your male avie with female clothing). And… show us the looks you have created. I am really looking forward to see the stuff everyone will come up with.

And here is my look:

I started with a great military-style jacket that I just happened to spy when my camera went crazy while I was cruising hair at Gritty Kitty.  To make it work on my shape required some editing, the prim work on the front of the jacket alone had to be adjusted prim by prim in order to make it curve around my tatas.  But if there is one thing I’ve learned, its to not be afraid of modifying a piece of clothing or hair, as long as its copyable that is.  Just make a copy of the item in your inventory before you begin, so you’ll always have the original if you make a mistake.  The boots were a L$1 buy I found at Katat0nik some time ago and came in both men’s and women’s sizes, and I picked up the jeans and hair from ShopArmidi.com.   My skin, of course, is Fleur Biba again.  I swear I obsess over each new makeup Roslin adds to the Allure line. *gets on my knees and begs her to bring Feline into the Allure family soon*

I have another look all cooked up and ready to go, but it will have to wait.  In the meantime, any suggestions as to what you’d like to see me in?

Style Sheet:
Jacket – Gritty Kitty Parade Coat
Boots – Katat0nik Axis Mundi Sculpted Boot

Hair – Armidi Hair – The Emo One – Midnight I
Skin – Fleur Allure Truffle Biba 1
