It All Started With A Simple Dare
Apr 26th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

That’s right, one tiny little challenge has snowballed into THIS.  And what exactly is THIS? Come closer and I’ll let you in on all the fun…

While I sit, innocently minding my own business after a fun-filled day at the RFL Art Auction – over L$300K raised, by the way! – my dear friend Jori Watler pops up in my IM with a link to a photo and announces that her partner, the ever-charming Reacher Rau, has challenged her to wear this lovely outfit for a full week.  Knowing Jori’s taste in clothing, I knew she’d never go for it, but I took the bait anyway.  “I’ll match it if you let me drag you around to events all week.”  Jori’s reply, “TP me.”  Lo and behold, she is wearing the lovely ensemble seen below.  Not only will she wear this for the full week, she informs me, she will donate the funds to Eshi Otawara’s RFL team.  What a generous sport.  But wait! There’s more…

While shopping for the outfit, Jori was torn between the one she chose and another.  We have to take some pictures, she announces. And, off I go to pick up the second outfit.  When I came back wearing the delicious-looking fruitiness, an idea was formed.  Both Jori and I will parade the grid in our new and delightful ensembles – I agreed to participate when Jori anted up 10K of her own to the cause.  But…and this is a fantastic but…if we can gather 100K in donations to Team Eshi, all funds to benefit Relay For Life, we will ditch the fruit and flowers (and, yes, the bling…gawd yes, the bling!) and pose together wearing nothing but a smile…and maybe some smexy pumps.

So, open up your wallets fashion fans and we’ll treat you to a skin review the likes of which you’ve never seen!  Donation Kiosks have been placed on Night Flower and at Jori’s store on Fusion.  Give generously, give often, just give, give, give!

Blogger Challenge: How Low Can You Go?
Apr 11th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

Isle Lunesea posted on her blog about how we can all do our part to reduce lag at crowded events, hunts and expos by choosing wearables that contribute to a low ARC or Avatar Rendering Cost.  So she challenged bloggers to come up with attractive, low-ARC outfits…under 100 ARC to be exact.  I really pushed the limit…and, okay, I might have dipped my toe over the line a little bit…but I came up with two looks that I think fit the spirit of the challenge.

There are those who will argue that ARC is a myth.  Personally, I will admit to being completely non-techy, so I don’t even pretend to understand all of the arguments for or against the legitimacy of ARC and its effect on sim lag.  In fact, just this week I discussed this with Codie and she tells me that, other than the sim build itself, skin is actually the largest contributor to lag at crowded events.  She made sense, but skin only has an ARC value of one.  So, how does that compute in the swirl of rationales debated by those for and against ARC as a lag measure?  But I digress.  This post is about the spirit of the challenge so lets get to the pictures, shall we?

What’s Black & White & Pink All Over?
Apr 1st, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

Okay, so the the old joke is actually:  What’s black and white and read all over? (a newspaper…yucka yucka yucka). And when I started putting this outfit together, I had on some red accents to go with the black and white. (Get it? Read. Red.) Then Java sent me a little pink dress and my mind started to flicker.  Once I headed upstairs to my little hideaway on Rouge (the only place on Codie’s sim you are likely to ever find anything pink), I was further inspired to make some changes.

I’d been trying on random goodies from Dice Beattie all night, and I love the versatility of his tintable Boobless One-Piece. He’s currently designing like a man possessed, rebuilding his store and planning to release all kinds of newness in mid-April. I paired the one-piece with a blouse and cropped pants from COCO, tights from Fleur, socks from Maitreya, and a belt from caLLie cLine. I chose a whimsical, romantic hairstyle from Clawtooth by Clawtooth, mostly because I really liked the flower and finally, I added my current obsession, the Boho Chic Mules from Pretties by JB.

A Few Of My Favorite (New) Things
Mar 30th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

By now you I’m certain you’ve all heard that ETD has reopened with 2 brand new hairstyles and 2 new versions of previous styles. I’ve been changing them often and I have to say, I really love Elika’s new textures. It seems like braids and skinny headbands/wraps are one of the spring trends on the grid and Elika’s Chel is a beautifully executed example of that.

So, what else is new? Jori Watler of Pretties by JB has released a gorgeous pair of Short Stack boots, available in a wide range of colors. With the slouchy upper and the rounded toe, these are great for wearing with your favorite pair of jeans or a cute tunic for that slightly bohemian look.  Speaking of boho, Jori has also just released some fantastic Boho Chic Mules, so run over there and pick up the entire Piggeh Pack of suede and leather, and the boots…how can you possibly pass them up?!?  The top I’m wearing is part of a new release from Journey called Frills. My friend Java invited me to meet the designer, Journey McLaglin, last week and as I understand it, she has a new release every Wednesday and there’s usually some sort of free gift involved. I’ve already marked my calendar to investigate that further this week.  (By the way, the skirt on this dress is really cute, I promise to blog it properly soon, I was just in the mood for jeans today.)

The Armoire: Like Nothing You’ve Seen Before
Mar 18th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

For the next five days, March 18th through March 22nd, five of Second Life’s most renowned and talented jewelry designers present for you a very special trunk show: The Armoire. Candy Cerveau of Eye Candy, Caliah Lyon of Muse, Violet Voltaire of Violet Voltaire, Kesseret Steeplechase of Kess Kreations, and Saiyge Lotus of Balderdash have each created living dioramas to showcase the mood and theme of their collections.  These unique exhibits are hidden in a mystical labyrinth with a shopping pavilion nestled in its core.

So what makes this jewelry showcase different than any other?  Its designed to be interactive.  The jewelry will be displayed by live models positioned in each diorama and visitors are encouraged to join in the Journeyman’s Quest to collect gemstones that will lead them to spectacular qifts, including some limited edition items.  Here’s a bit of information about the quest as it was shared with me:

You are a journeyman jeweler newly learning your trade.  You have traveled to a magical labyrinth where you’ve heard you can perfect your skills with some of the finest jewelers in the land.  You’ve been given a jewelry box to collect gems for your creations, and in the labyrinth, your task is to seek those magical gems.  Collect six of each color to gain a Key of Knowledge that opens magical chests — do they hold the knowledge that you seek?  Open the chests of silver and gold, and your quest for the Master’s exemplary jewelry is complete.

Take this magic carpet to the event site and begin your own quest.  Keep reading for more information and photos of some of the designs that are featured.

And On The Seventh Day, Ryker Created Eden
Mar 10th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

Ryker Beck, noted artist and the designer behind Genesis, has as much drive and determination as she does talent and creativity. For the last few weeks, I have stalked her plurks and flickr relentlessly, just waiting for her to give us yet another glimpse into her quest to design a new skin line. Along the way, she’s asked for comments, suggestions, criticisms…and she’s taken them all into account, incorporating those that fit her vision, and filing away the rest for future reference.

In the end…Eden was born!

Genesis: Eden: Nutmeg: Saturday with Freckles

I’ve seen this skin on several different avatars, each with a unique shape, and what I find magical is this: Eden seems to morph itself onto whatever shape you are wearing and play up its best features. I was talking with Jori Watler about Eden on Sunday night and her comment was, “It should be called Chameleon.”And she’s right.

I’m obsessively particular about skins and rarely find any outside of my beloved Fleur that fit my shape.  Genesis is a whole new world.  This is no fly-by-night, first-time skin designer throwing new makeups on an open source base. No. Ryker Beck has painted, tweaked and refined this skin with a sense of artistry and eye to detail that rival even the most accomplished and experienced skin makers.

Keep reading to see the rest of the twenty (That’s right! T.W.E.N.T.Y…and each comes with a freckled version, too!) make up styles and a full-lenth photo of the body. Read the rest of this entry »

The Three C’s
Mar 9th, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

We all know a diamond’s value is measured by the 4 C’s, but my wardrobe is dominated by only 3.  I am all about clothes that are Cool, Casual and Comfy.

Yesterday morning, I logged in to find MichaMi’s latest release, The Noomi Jackets and Mini-Dresses, and spent much of the day running around the grid accessorizing, mixing and matching, and changing color combinations at every turn.  In the end, I chose to pair the jacket with one of my favorite pieces from Last Call, a great pair of jeans and some flats from Jori Watler’s new store, Pretties by JB.  Then I added some crazy hair from Amrita (which I am in love with, by the way) and a skin from Tokeo Platik, a store suggested to me by Paypabak Writer.  Now I feel completely relaxed and as though I could move easily from an afternoon at the park to drinks with the girls after a day of shopping.

I’ve got more Noomi to show you very soon.  The color combinations of the dresses are perfect for spring and the jacket is so versatile, I haven’t finished putting together all of the looks I want to share!

Right now, though, I have to let you see more of these fantastic flats!  On the top row are a few of the Riva Uniques: Golden Brocade, Coco Beach, Pink Dolly, and Groovy Swirls.  Below them are the OoLaLa’s in Amethyst, Ruby, Sapphire and Topaz. (click the photo to view the larger size for more detail)

And don’t forget to pick up the Riva Originals, ballet flats in soft, solid colors, some bracelets and a few handbags while you’re there.  Jori’s in the process of designing a new line of shoes for the spring and summer and has plans to release a line of prim lashes and other customizable items.

Paisley Park
Mar 2nd, 2009 by Gabby Panacek

When I saw the names given to the different color variations of caLLie cLine’s latest dress, I expected to find her signature palette of fun, bright tones.  With names like sUmmeR’s sUnsHiNe, haRpeRs biZZaRe, gRaciana’s gOOdieS, gOgO giRL, baBy’s boDaciOuSneSS, and caLLie’s crazy paisley party dress, you can imagine my surprise when I realized the shades of blue, steel, copper, grape and black and white were muted, delicate and the perfect tones for showing off the classic paisley print.

The paisly party dress by caLLie cLine with its bell skirt, strapless bodice, plunging back and wide belt can be dressed up or down.  And because the colors are so soft and almost neutral, the dress creates a stunning backdrop on which to show off a spectacular piece of jewelry or other stand-out accessory.  Zaara’s Malachite Necklace, with matching earrings, is just such a piece.  The large green stones accented with black and silver beg to be worn with an outfit that will compliment, not compete with, their eye-catching presence.  I added a couple of large rings with black stones, Redgrave’s Big Sapphire and Paper Couture’s Times Square, and my go-to manicure, Super Nova by Nevermore.

As usual, Callie gives you tons of options with this dress and includes all of the accessories you need to wear it right out of the store, including puffed, off the shoulder arm cuffs with lace trim, and a complete set of black diamond jewelry – ring, bracelet and earrings.  I chose baBy’s boDaciOuSneSS for this photo, but I’ll admit that the grape hue of sUmmeR’s sUnsHiNe is probably my favorite.  But you should try them all, mix and match them with your favorite accessories and create a look that is uniquely you.  Have Fun!

Dress: baBy’s boDaciOuSneSS paisley party dress (b&w) by caLLie cLine
