There is a saying that “behind every strong man, there is a strong woman.” I’ll go a step further and say that, in Second Life, “behind every good looking man, there is a great consultant.”
For some of us, our avatar is not a priority, we focus more on the world around us, on the social and creative aspects of SL and our avatar becomes neglected.
But it shouldn’t be that way. Our avatar have great potential for inspiration and. from a social perspective, it is the first thing others will see and can open doors to conversations and new friendships. Just think of all the stereotypes there are in SL. When you see a guy with overgrown muscles, I’m sure you have the same reaction as i do.
With the choices we have in Second Life, its sometimes hard to know where to start. Whether you are new or looking to remake yourself, it’s easy to get lost, frustrated and feel like you don’t have any other options than what you already possess.
But that is not true, there are lots of options and possibilities, the trick is seeing them. That is not always something we can do alone. We need help! help from someone that knows the inner workings of shopping, someone that can see in the blink of an eye what looks good, help from someone who wants nothing more than to refine you from head to toe. Yes, admit it, we need help from a woman.

if you were to ask every girl in your friends list to tell you five things she would change about your shape and/or your personal style. She could do it in less then a minute. From the second she saw you, she analyzed and made note of everything wrong on your avatar. That might sound like a bad thing, but it can actually work to your advantage.
if you are looking to change yourself, to “upgrade” your appearance, the best help you can get is by asking a woman you trust to help you. And yes i said a woman you trust, because you cant just ask the first girl in your list. What you need is a woman who will guide you wisely, who knows you and will help you make the best decisions for your new appearance. You need a woman who has a style similar to yours, so she will have a much easier time identifying with you and will guide you to clothes she knows will work for you. She’ll also have have more shop possibilities in her inventory if you share a similar taste in fashion.
Be sure to ask for help from a woman you respect. How can you accept her advice if you do not? She may present you with options that are out of your comfort zone, so you’ll need to trust and respect that she is recommending what she truly believes will look good on you.
Most of all though you need a strong woman who can defend her selections. Just because you asked her for help doesn’t make you a drone. You don’t have to accept and buy, mindlessly, everything she points out. If her recommendation doesn’t look like something you would wear, don’t buy it. She’s not in your mind, so she can’t know everything about you, but her point might and will often be valid. If she can explain to you why that piece would be good for you, it will broaden your mind, and give you some guidelines. You’ll learn more about your style, about quality versus price, and about what to look for in details. Basically, the better she explains why it suits you, the more you’ll learn and will be able to make good choices for yourself in the future.
The important thing also is to make sure this is enjoyable experience for both, don’t be afraid to ask her why that piece is good, but that doesn’t mean you have to grill her. She’s there to help, not to change you. Tell her what your budget is, women have experience on what is a reasonable price and they are used to working with their own budget, so she’ll be able to make the most of yours.
There is no shame in asking for help, so don’t hesitate. Get different opinions from different women. Enjoy the learning experience, the quality time you can have with your consultant and you will be surprised how great the results can be.

Of course, don’t forget about male consultants! A man who really understands fashion and style can provide as good (if not even better) advice to a man as a woman can. Of course, the problem is finding such a man, and judging from the male avatars in SL they seem quite the rarity.
meh… I am usually one of the first girls on anyone’s list.
Indeed! Ernst, that is very true! Some guys can do a great job as a style consultant also and will no doubt have more ressources (landmark and such) to help in finding a personal style but as you mention they are quite rare in sl. Thats why i focused more on girl consultants as they are easier to find and are probably the most willing to help.
Also male consultants are great to help woman. The situation works in both ways, not all guys are experts on fashion but we do know what we like to see on a woman!
Well Ana considering you write a fashion blog, i think that is pretty normal. It seems you are bored with helping though? I can see how it could get annoying to be asked for helped all the time by both boys and girls.
