I’m A Sucker For A Pretty Face

And the new Briar skin from Aura (Tyr Rozenblum, designer) is very pretty, indeed. I will admit that I am pretty lazy when it comes to skins. My selection process goes something like this: Do I like the makeup options? Do I like the skin tones? Do I have to mod my shape to make it look right? If the answers are Yes, Yes, and No, then I’m buying it. Briar meets all three criteria and has therefore been promoted to the top of my must-wear skin list. Isn’t she lovely?

Briar is available in an amazing sixteen makeup options and six skin tones…Tyr really worked overtime to make this a comprehensive release! AND she includes freckles! I love that. ETA: I guess I should mention, I’m wearing the Grace makeup option and Honey skin tone…with freckles, of course.

{ coldLogic is open }

I’m sure by now you’ve seen lots of press about coldLogic, the new brand from Damien Fate, Zyrra Falcone and Janie Marlowe. In fact, I blogged about it here. Today is opening day and there are so many fantastic styles to choose from! I’ve been scouring the marketplace and picking up demos before heading to the store…and it is pretty much a given that I’ll buy out the place. I just can’t pick a favorite. The coldLogic team did send me a little sample pack, though, and this pretty little number caught my eye.

Run now to coldLogic and pick out your favorites. They have everything from dresses to jumpers, skirts, pants, shirts…you name it. This initial release is really well thought out and features something for everyone. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Happy shopping!

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Last week, I started seeing some teasers on plurk about a new brand debuting in February. Exciting news, yes? Not half as exciting as learning that the new brand, ColdLogic, features the collaborative efforts of Damien Fate, Zyrra Falcone and Janie Marlowe. All brilliant creators in their own right, I cannot wait to see what they can do together. Someone speed up the calendar, please?

Speaking of teasers, the Winter Dress was dropped on the ColdLogic subscriber’s group this week. You can join the group here. I Don’t Like Change

Really and truly I don’t. I swore I’d use a V1.xx viewer until it was pried from my cold, dead pixel hands…and then came mesh. I tried to resist. I told myself I could live without swishy skirts that moved with my body. That I wouldn’t let unforgiving sculpts bother me. But plurk is a cruel, cruel temptress. Everywhere I turned there were new pictures of these gorgeous mesh clothes and jewelry and furniture and …I caved.

So, here I am, trying to find a viewer that won’t make my graphics card whinge like a baby, playing with mesh and shadows and multiple layers and, as much as I hate to admit it, having a blast! Thankfully, I’ve received lots of great advice from plurk and, most generously, my dear friend Caer, who recreated her shadow-friendly skybox for me and passed along the ingenious follow spot she made and scripted.

Anyway. I’m dipping my toe back into the blogging pond after a long hiatus and I need to know…Who makes your favorite mesh items? What are your best tips/tricks for playing with shadows? Happy New Year!

Hair Fair – Part 1

I adore Hair Fair. It is quite possibly the SL Event I most look forward to. This year, I had the privilege of working with the Hair Fair 2011 committee. What a fantastic group of residents! The hours they put in to make this event one of the most talked about, anticipated and blogged in SL is extraordinary. If you see a committee member wandering around the sims, please let them know how much you enjoy it! Now…On with the hair!

I have so many more styles to blog, but I’m still unboxing demos! I decided to start with some brands that are a mix of old and new-to-me, but who have created some really versatile styles for this year’s event. A Hairy Situation

Hair Fair is almost here! Are you ready? I’m not! I have a little inventory clean up to get through first. (Check out these tutorials from Anya Ohmai if you need some inventory organization pointers).

Some of you may be skin collectors. Or maybe your virtual closet is overflowing with shoes. Me? I’m a hair hoarder. Blonde, brunette, ginger. Updos, pigtails, long hair, short hair…it doesn’t matter. I love it all. With Hair Fair 2011 just around the corner, I’m spending my in-world time sorting, editing and packing away some older styles to make room for all of the fantastic new coifs created by the uber-talented designers participating in this two-week event benefiting Wigs for Kids. So, for the next few evenings, my Second Life looks something like this:

I did make sure to join the demo group, though. Hair Fair designers will start sending out demo wigs on July 1, so you can try them on and pick out your favorites in the comfort of your own home. Or get together with some of your friends and have a demo party!
